The Best Laid Plans...

I am a creature of habit.  I have my routine and I like to stick with it.  I am not a fan of spontaneity, and I don't like it when things "pop up" that get in the way of what I usually do (I can hear you laughing right now, knowing that I just had a baby a few weeks ago.  Perhaps that was why the last stretch of pregnancy made me so grumpy; I couldn't plan when Baby H would be born!).  For the past few years, my weekday schedule as been wake up, work, go to the gym, dinner, shower, relax/grade/plan, sleep.  Needless to say, we're going to have to work out a new schedule in our house :)

Baby H is working on a schedule of her own and last week it was going pretty well.  She was eating around the same times each day, going to sleep around 10:00 and then waking up around 3:30 and then 7:00.  So when we decided we would try to make it to church on Sunday (we like to go to the 8:30 service - don't change my routine :) ), I thought, "Ok, this will work out well.  When she wakes up at 7, I'll feed her and have her ready to go by 8 and we'll make it on time.  That'll also mean she'll eat again at 10, giving us time to get home once the service is over."  So here's how Saturday night/Sunday morning went:

10:00 - Baby H is asleep.  I am happy because we're on schedule.

2:30 - Baby H is awake.  While Baby H is nursing, I'm calculating: She was consistently getting up at 3:30 and 7, so if she's up at 2:30 she's going to wake up again at 6.  If she eats at 6, she's going to want to eat again at 9 and that's right in the middle of church! *Panic*

6:00 - I wake up and get in the shower.  I instruct my hubby to not wake the baby, she needs to make it as close to 7 as possible.

6:40 - Baby H is awake.  Hubby goes to change her with instructions to try to distract her as long as possible.

6:45 - She's not easily distracted :)  Time to eat!  I'm again calculating: Barring a long service, this will put us eating again at 9:45, that is if we make it the full 3 hours, it's always a toss up.

8:15 - We arrive at church.  It's Youth Sunday.  This again makes me panic as I think this will make the service longer.

9:20 - Church is over and Baby H slept through the whole thing!

All that panicking for nothing (THIS time anyway :) ).

The moral of the story:  I'm going to have to learn to go with the flow.  But on the flip-side, life is going to have to flow around my schedule as well.  :)
