A Few of My Favorite (newborn) Things

The other night I was thinking about the baby things that we have found to be "must-haves."  Oddly enough, a lot of the stuff we use all the time is not stuff we registered for, but rather purchased after Baby H was born.  As others we know are beginning to have babies as well, these are the items I tell them are crucial to survival (well, maybe not survival, but certainly help in keeping some sanity).

Favorite Thing #1: Sleep Gowns

Pre-Baby H we had received 3 of these as gifts.  I never would have purchased these on my own as I did not think they were "cute."  However, these were/are WONDERFUL.  The snap-up sleepers are nice, but with the gowns you don't have to worry about unsnapping and snapping back up countless times in the middle of the night!  Baby H sleeps through the night most nights now, but I still put her in these most nights. And then nights I don't put her in them I'm wishing I did when she decides to wake up at 3 am and I'm stuck unsnapping and snapping.

Favorite Thing #2: Snugabunny Rock and Play Sleeper

Even though we had the cradle all ready to go in our room, Baby H decided she didn't like sleeping on the flat surface!  Our pack-and play (see below) has a newborn napper on it which she loved to sleep in for the first few weeks.  So after two nights of fighting the cradle, we decided to move the pack-and-play into our room at night.  Epic fail: it wouldn't fit through the doorway!  "So, just collapse it down," you say.  Nope.  That newborn napper in a pain in the rear-end to get in and out and it's staying put until we're done with it for good!  So, plan B was to find something similar to his hammock-style napper.  Enter the Snugabunny.  This thing has been a lifesaver.  In fact, Baby H is still sleeping in it because I'm afraid of what the night will be like if I put her in the crib!

This picture brings us to favorite thing #3...

Favorite Thing #3: Carter's Blankets

These blankets are great for swaddling.  They are not too thick and not too thin.  We purchased 2 additional ones a few days after Baby H was born.  Currently she likes to try to eat them when she's not sleeping in them. :)

Favorite Thing #4: Boppy Pillow

This is my one favorite nursing item that I'll post on here.  I have discovered a few "must-haves" for nursing mommies, but I will save those for private convos. :)  This pillow though can also be used to prop baby in a sitting position and for tummy-time as well.  Definitely worth the $40.

Favorite Thing #5: Pack-and Play

Not only is this a pack-and-play, it is also a changing table and bassinet (the lovely newborn napper is on the right).  This would be worth it just for the changing table. We have a two-story house and it would be really annoying to have to go up and down the stairs every time we need to change a diaper (and trust me, sometimes the diapers only last a minute or two).  This version also has a vibrating pack that is currently in the bassinet portion, but can later be moved to the mattress as well.  Another great investment!

Favorite Thing #6: Kindle Fire

Ok, I know it's not a newborn item, and I know I said I would only post one nursing product, but I couldn't resist.  The Kindle Fire is very handy for feeding time.  I can do anything from checking facebook, to playing games, to actually reading books while Baby H is eating.

What are some of your favorite things?
